The Auto Grouping function will derive groups automatically for the selected fields. This can be done for attributes or for the outcome when using tree induction.
For discrete types each group will contain a set of the values. For continuous (numeric or date/time) types, each group would be split by deriving numeric thresholds. Values are grouped on the basis of the similarity of their effect on the current outcome field. This process is achieved by using rule induction to profile which values have related relevance to the target outcome, and group them accordingly.
Once auto grouped, the groups can be further modified using manual Grouping. The parameters used are the same as when using the Induce dialog.
